Not a bad book to read. The climate of the story took too long for me to get into the book.
I enjoyed "Time For A Killing". Mr. Evans is a good writer. It's well written, and the characters are interesting. This book includes a lot of details and behind the scenes bits and pieces that make it very engrossing. The style is a lot like newspaper reporting. There aren't a lot of wasted words, but the descriptions are vivid. There are a couple parallel plotlines, but I kept up with them.

I liked this book. I agree with a previous reviewer that the ending seemed a bit abrupt. That was my only real disappointment. Otherwise, it's a well written book that's well worth reading.
Move over Joseph Wambaugh and Michael Connelly! Another LA mystery writer has descended on the scene.

TIME FOR KILLING is a great read. Fast-paced plot, solid writing, and a damn good police procedural.

The story concerns an investigation into the execution-style murder of a Los Angeles Police Department patrol officer's wife. Evans sets up several possible suspects, including the police officer himself. This page-turning novel will keep you guessing right until the end with its many plot twists and turns.

I do have to agree with another reviewer that I found the ending a bit abrupt and thought the author could have come up with a better conclusion. But in no way does it detract from a very good read.

Well worth adding to your reading list! I will want to check out more of John L. Evans's novels.

This novel had me puzzled for awhile because there is something different about the style of writing. Finally I realised that, in my opinion, it is written almost as a report of an investigation but disguised as fiction. There is nothing wrong with this - it is easy to read and the investigation very interesting, as is the behind-the-scenes interaction between the police. I found one character's plan to marry a suspect a little bizarre and slightly unbelievable, but this did not spoil the story.

The pace of the plot is good and it is well written.

My only disappointment is that it finished abruptly. I don't give spoilers, because that is unfair to the author, but I felt a few more paragraphs could have rounded it off nicely.

Well recommended!
